It seems to me that there has been past discussion in RinkWorks about this practice. Possibly even in the old forum, although I'd have no idea where to start looking for the thread, if it even exists.
My wife bought Howie, our '87 Honda Accord before we were married. She named him. At first I teased her about it, and made jokes when other Hondas would go by. (There goes Howie's girlfriend Helen Honda!) But it sort of caught on after a while.
My sister has a 1982 Honda Civic hatchback. It's two-tone, rust red and sky blue where the hood and fender were replaced with junkyard parts. She doesn't take it to college with her, and that's what I've been driving during this carless period. It's name is Sweetums.
When we started our car search last Friday, we met The Scotsman for lunch, and had a discussion about car names. His first car was a Ford Tempo and he didn't name it. His second car was a mini-van he bought from his father when his Tempo got totaled, and he called it the "Babemobile." This was ironic because it was anything but. His current vehicle is a Pontiac Grand Am, and he hadn't named it yet, so we tried to come up with a good one for it.
We finally decided on "Jean-Claude."
