Wrong Number

I had something funny happen to me tonight, and I decided to tell you about it. Here goes:

The phone rang this evening, I picked it up and a man's voice said, in a very distinct, proper manner, "Hello. May I speak to Tracy please?"
"Who?" I said.
"Tracy."
"I'm sorry. I think you have the wrong number."
"Oh, I'm sorry."

About 30 seconds later, the phone rang again. I had a feeling it was the same guy again, but I answered it normally. Before I go any farther, let me explain that I have been sick and my voice has been sounding like a dead frog for over a week now. It's getting better, but it still sounds weird and words don't always come out quite right because I can't make any high-pitched sounds.
"Hi, may I speak to Tracy please," said the same man.
"Um, this is the wrong number again," I said. "What number are you calling?"
He gave me the number, and I said yes, that was my number. He sounded rather disappointed.
"Oh. I must have gotten a bogus number at the bar," he said.
"Okay," I said, expecting to hear him say goodbye or hang up.
Instead, he said, "But your voice sounds rather nice. Would you like to talk for awhile?"
I was flabbergasted and speechless, but managed to stammer, "Um, I-I have a fianc."
"Oh, that's too bad," he said.
"Okay," I said in a tone that left him no option but to hang up. Fortunately, he did.

I hung up and had a good laugh, but it also made me wonder about the girl who gave this guy the number. She could have been too drunk and just made a mistake, but I have a feeling she intentionally gave him a different number than her own. After hearing a few sentences, this guy started hitting on me. People say my voice sounds just like my mom's on the telephone, so for all he knew, he could have been hitting on a 47-year-old mother of three. I imagine he started getting too pushy with "Tracy," so she gave him the first set of numbers that popped into her head.

I guess I feel a bit sorry for the guy. He wanted to talk to a female, so he met a girl in a bar and talked to her long enough to get her number. I suppose this isn't so bad, but the fact that he wanted to talk to someone he had never seen before shows how desperate he really is. Maybe he'll have better luck next time. In the meantime, I will enjoy retelling this story!
